Bold Statement of the Day: And here we have the current home page of The Huffington Post, which has provoked 7,000 comments and counting… [huffpo]

I see The Huffington Post is catching a lot of shit for this. A lot of people are offended by the image of a coat hanger splashed onto the front page for a story about the Republican Party’s assertion — yet again — that abortion should be banned, even in cases of rape.
Let me repeat: people aren’t offended that the GOP wants to ban abortion (again); they’re offended that HuffPo decided to put this graphic on their website to describe the story.
But you know what? I’m not offended by the image. You know why?
Because if the GOP gets its way, and safe, legal abortions are legally banned, this is exactly what’s going to happen. Abortions will not disappear; instead, they will be performed in back alleys, by less-than-reputable medical people. Yes, many of them will involve coat hangers — because prior to Roe v. Wade, that’s what happened.
Roe v. Wade didn’t start abortion: it stopped women from dying from abortion.
You people wanna get offended? Get offended at a political party that makes it a primary objective to take away a woman’s autonomy over her own body. Get offended at a political party that does not view women as people capable enough of making their own decisions. Get offended at a political party that uses such asinine phrases as “legitimate rape.”
But don’t get offended at a website for telling it like it is. That’s missing the point!
