When called out for it, they say “Shut up! This campaign is about the issues! Quit trying to divide the country!” They tell us that “real Americans” are the white, working class, small town, god-fearing, Christian folk from the south and the middle states. Everyone else, from the ‘morally bankrupt’ in New York City and Chicago, to the ‘elitist snobs’ in the Northeast, to the ‘godless hippies’ in California, and the ‘queer loving sinners’ in San Francisco, are phony Americans, dragging down the country. …Oh, and to suggest otherwise is divisive.
